Dr. Norazlina Bachik Ng completed her bachelor in medical science in 1989 followed by basic medical degree at University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in 1992. After completing one year Internship at Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah, Klang, she served as a Medical Officer in the Vascular and General Surgery Unit at Hospital Kuala Lumpur for three years before moving on to postgraduate studies in 1996. She received her extensive hands-on post-graduate training in Ophthalmology at Hospital Kuala Lumpur, being the pioneer batch of the UKM Open System Masters programme training. She completed and obtained the Master in Opthalmology degree in 2000.
Dr. Norazlina was gazetted as an Ophthalmologist by the Ministry of Health of Malaysia in 2000 and is a registered Specialist in the Malaysia National Specialist Registry. She then joined the Medical Faculty of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia as a Clinical Specialist and Lecturer at the Department of Ophthalmology. It was here that she developed her interest and gained her skills in Refractive surgeries.
After serving three years at UKM, she joined Optimax Eye Specialist Centre, the leading refractive laser centre in Malaysia in 2003. She played a major role in the establishment and expansion of the centre and was instrumental in developing a few of the many successful Optimax centres. Over the span of 10 years in Optimax, Dr Norazlina has accumulated tremendous knowledge and has extensive skills in Refractive surgeries. She has done thousands of successful refractive surgeries. She is capable of doing all types of refractive surgery methods ranging from surface ablations, blade LASIK, femtosecond LASIK up to the most recent technology of small incision surgery called the Relex-SMILE, being one of the only 4 Malaysian surgeons and the only female trained thus far.
Dr Norazlina also does other types of refractive surgeries effortlessly. These include refractive lens exchange either for cataract cases or clear lens using phacoemulsification small incision technique, with premium intraocular lens implants using the multifocal, toric and trifocal lenses. Her patients include difficult situations like post-LASIK cataracts.
Dr Norazlina also provides comprehensive eye care and management for children and other eye diseases which includes diabetic eye monitoring and laser treatment, age-related macular degeneration, retinal hole and tears, glaucoma and other general eye problems.
Dr. Norazlina is a firm believer of continuing medical education. On the academic platform, she is always involved in local and international congresses and conferences either as a participant or invited moderator or speaker. She has appeared on many TV and radio public eye educational programmes both in Bahasa Malaysia and English, on various media channels like TV3,TV2, RTM and Traxx FM as well as giving free in-house or invited public seminars on Eye Care involving both private institutions and governmental departments. Dr. Norazlina also participates in community eye screening programs as well as charity cataract surgeries.
